Hidden Hollow is in the southern Appalachians and is a part of McLemore Cove, which is included on the National Historic Register. It is 135 mostly wooded acres of seclusion at the foot of, and on the side of, Lookout Mountain, 20 miles from downtown Chattanooga, Tennessee. Special on-site interests (besides the many tourist attractions in the nearby areas) are the Cherokee Indian heritage, the Civil War happenings, remnants of old moonshine stills, a water wheel, and varied outdoor games
"In God's wilderness lies the hope of the world - the great fresh
un-blighted, unredeemed wilderness." John Muir
There is a small quiet lake, fed by springs, that empties into a bubbling
creek. Each season has its own special offering, spring's flowering trees,
and summer's long lazy days, autumn's outstanding color and the briskness
of winter. There are not too many opportunities in today's world to get away
into the wilderness to hike and fish.
The small quaint country inn and cozy log cabins are of trees from Hidden
Hollow's own woods. Quilts on the beds and braided rugs on the wooden floors
add to the charm. There are cooking facilities, outdoor grills, and picnic
shelters. Some accommodations have sleeping lofts. Most have fireplaces. Your
comfort is important...Enjoy the great porches, lawn games and revel in the
peace and quiet. There are no bedside telephones to jangle you out of your
relaxation, but there is a centrally located phone when you need it. Though
there are no TVs, you are welcome to bring your own TV/VCR if you wish.
There is a recreation hall, Dancing Bear Lodge, for group "hoedowns,"
workshops, weddings or meetings. It is available year-round with central heat
and air, and a large stone fireplace. The Innkeepers can take groups of any
size, with or without previous dancing experience, and keep them entertained
with an "ice-breaking" evening of audience participation folk dancing
for clubs, churches, schools, family and school reunions, company outings,
conventions, etc. School field trips are a specialty.
There is a chapel by the lake for weddings and church events. We can provide
you with a list of local caterers, musicians, etc. for your convenience.
